Before We Begin: Organization

This book is organized in three parts.  The first part, composed of five chapters, presents fundamental electrical principles and properties.  The concepts presented may seem a bit dry and perhaps uninteresting to some, but without a foundation in the basic principles involved, electronics is a complete mystery.  Understanding the basic principles involved and how to analyze, or think your way through, a circuit from a theoretical standpoint is a must.

The second part introduces the types of components and circuits that most people think of as electronics.  Things get interesting in part two as the types of components and circuits you need to construct modern electrical devices are introduced.

Part three of the book is a collection of appendices.  The appendices contain two types of information.  Some of them contain supplementary information, such as tables of values or lists of formulas, as you would expect in an appendix.  Others contain information that could stand alone as a chapter in the body of the book.  The goal of this book is to discuss electronics in a conversational tone without getting bogged down in too many unnecessary details.  There are cases where the reader may be interested in, or needs in their particular case, more information on a subject.  The chapter-like appendices are there for this reason.  They are referenced in the body of the book, for those who want, or need, additional information on a particular topic.
